The Saugus Union School District has made several changes and additions to their district and school site administrative personnel for 2018.
These changes go into effect following the district’s winter break, which ended with students returning to classrooms on earlier this week.
Peter Bland, Director of Personnel
Longtime teacher and administrator Peter Bland – most recently principal at Charles Helmers Elementary – moves to the district office to serve as director of personnel, a newly created position designed to directly handle personnel issues.
Bland has been with the Saugus Union School District for more than 21 years, starting as a teacher at Emblem Academy and serving as an assistant principal and principal for several schools.
Susan Bett, Principal, West Creek Academy
Bett, who had served as assistant principal and interim principal at West Creek Academy, was promoted to the position on a permanent basis.
Alina Vehuni, Ed.D., Interim Principal, Charles Helmers Elementary
Dr. Vehuni, who has served as an assistant principal at several SUSD schools, was promoted to Interim Principal at Charles Helmers.
“We are very happy to be able to enter the new year with familiar faces in new places,” said Joan Lucid, Ed.D. and superintendent of the Saugus Union School District. “Each of these talented individuals has given us the confidence to give them more responsibility, allowing us to deliver on our promise of ‘academic and personal success for every child.’”

The district should cut jobs at the district level, not add them. The money that is wasted on district staff should be given to the schools. This is why I always vote no on all those propositions they try to pass to get more money out of the residents.
