At least on paper, there was something a little extra meaningful about The Master’s University’s home win on Friday night, the Mustangs beating the team that ended their season a year ago on the same court that hosted the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament.
The rematch was swift.
Master’s beat the Oaks 3-0 by scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 26-24, to remain alone in first place in conference.
The Mustangs are 17-3 overall and 6-0 in GSAC, a far cry from a team that slipped into the conference tournament in 2017 and lost to Menlo in the first round.
This group, ranked No. 14 in the NAIA, has won seven straight matches, dropping only two sets during that span. Master’s will aim to keep that streak alive Saturday when it hosts William Jessup in a 3 p.m. start.
Kayla Sims continued her impressively smooth transition to outside hitter Friday, as she knocked in 10 kills and tallied four total blocks.
Of course, she still impacted the match as a setter in TMU’s 6-2 system. She led the team with 21 assists, while Sarah Park chipped in nine.
Here’s the box score.
Jane Cisar (pictured at top) had eight kills and six total blocks, and Regan Tate added seven kills.
