Sacramento – Senator Scott Wilk (R- Antelope Valley) has received Easter Seals California’s “2018 Senate Champion Award” in recognition of his legislative work on behalf of people with disabilities.
The award was presented to Senator Wilk at the 14th annual Legislative Award Gala.
“It is an incredible honor to be recognized by Easter Seals, an amazing organization that has been the voice of the developmentally disabled community for almost 100 years,” Wilk said. “I look forward to continuing my work with Easter Seals and other organizations that tirelessly advocate for those whose voices too often go unheard in the Legislature.”
For more than 90 years, Easter Seals has been instrumental in developing a community-based system of services and supports to help keep families together and to assist infants, children, adults and seniors with disabilities to reach their fullest potential and to live as independently as possible.
Easter Seals’ services include early intervention, school-age pediatric therapy and classroom support, respite, independent living, supported employment, employment services for veterans, residential homes, autism therapy services, adult day services and senior care.
“Easter Seals appreciates your continued commitment and legislative support of programs and services for individuals with disabilities. We want to continue partnering with you to help create policy solutions that change and improve the lives of children and adults with disabilities,” said Carlene Holden, Chair Easter Seals California Public Policy Committee.”
Senator Wilk was honored for his leadership on Senate Bill 283, a measure to extend the age limit for eligibility to receive services designed to support individuals with developmental disabilities. He continues to pursue a solution to this critical issue through the budget process.
