College of the Canyons’ baseball team beat Chaffey College 12-9 in a wild game on Saturday when the home team scored eight runs in the 7th to gain the win and improve to 7-4.

Justin King got the win for the Cougars after coming in relief in the 5th inning with Canyons trailing 8-2. King struck out Chaffey’s Christian Valdez to end the inning.

Chaffey only scored one more run the rest of the game before King gave way to Jarrett Poh who earned the save

Canyons improved to 7-4 on the year and Chaffey fell to 3-9.

The Cougars will play another game at Chaffey on Tuesday, February 20.

  1. Richard McNally says:

I was at this game, very exciting and enjoyable. Some constructive criticisms of the venue:
    1. How about making these games more of an entertaining event for the people of SCV? It’s too low keyed as it is.
    2. There’s no water fountain near the playing field. A helpful security man drove me across campus to a drinking fountain in the PE building.
    3. How about a play-by-play announcer on a loud speaker ala Dodger stadium? TMU has one (although he’s not very enthusiastic). Surely there’s a communications student at COC who would love the job, for pay or credit.
    4. TMU prints a 1-page roster of both teams (2 sides). Can’t COC do the same?
    5. Maybe charge a small fee for seats in the infield stands. This would cover the cost of an announcer and printing rosters.
    6. Are the outfield fences marked with the footage, I don’t recall? If not, they should be.
    7. How about some bleachers along the outfield lines?
    8. More advertising of upcoming home games might eventually draw lots of fans. These games are exciting to watch and the players are all highly talented.

These ideas would make the game more exciting for fans and thus for players too.
