The next meeting of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is set for Tuesday, May 8, starting at 9:30 a.m.

Among the agenda highlights, Supervisors Ridley-Thomas and Hahn will direct the county’s Chief Executive Officer to send a five-signature letter in opposition to HUD Secretary Ben Carson’s proposed “Making Affordable Housing Work Act” (Item 14).

Approve the proposed project and adopt the plans and specifications for the Santa Monica Rental Housing Construction Program (RHCP) housing developments. (3-H)

Adopt a resolution declaring an intent by East LA Community Corporation to undertake bond financing in an amount not to exceed $15,000,000. (4-H, Item 34)

Supervisor Hahn directs the Chief Executive Officer to engage a consultant to study and validate the equipment and infrastructure needs of the Consolidated Fire Protection District. (Item 3)

Supervisor Solis recommends supporting Proposition 68 – Parks, Environment and Water Bond, a bond measure on the June 2018 Statewide ballot. (Item 9)

Authorize the Director of Mental Health to execute amendments to existing Department of Mental Health service agreements to provide contractors with additional funds for the expansion of services at Drop-In Centers for Transition Age Youth. (Item 32)

Authorize the Director of Public Health to execute Master Agreements (MAs) for the provision of as-needed media services for County Departments. (Item 33)

Adopt the Job Order Contract Unit Price Book and specifications for two Job Order Contracts at an aggregate amount of $9,800,000. (Item 38)

The Claims Board recommends a $1,750,000 settlement for a lawsuit alleging wrongful death and Federal civil rights violations by a Sheriff’s Deputy. (Item 52)

The Claims Board recommends a $1,000,000 settlement for a lawsuit alleging injuries received in an automobile accident involving a Sheriff’s Deputy. (Item 53)

The Claims Board recommends a $650,000 settlement arising out of the fatal Deputy-involved shooting of Plaintiffs’ son. (Item 55)

The Claims Board recommends a $2,000,000 settlement for a lawsuit alleging injuries she suffered at birth after being treated by a physician under contract with the County. (Item 57)

  1. Why would anyone approve spending nearly $10M on JOC data, technical specification, software, etc. Did LA County do its due diligence and seek alternative/equivalent solutions? Did the board honor its fiduciary responsibility? Perhaps, but it seems like a lot of money that could have been potentially better spent on actual construction. Maybe time for an independent audit?

Chiquita Canyon, LLC has announced that the Chiquita Canyon Landfill is closing active waste disposal operations effective Jan. 1, 2025. The last day for accepting incoming solid waste at the landfill is Tuesday, Dec. 31. While waste disposal operations will conclude, Chiquita Canyon, LLC will continue to manage the landfill, address the noxious odor incident occurring onsite and oversee closure and post-closure activities.
