The SCV Mayor’s Committee for Employment of Individuals with Disabilities is planning to hold their annual community meeting on May 9 and released the following statement.
The SCV Mayor’s Committee for Employment of Individuals with Disabilities was established in the mid-1990s in Santa Clarita to “Promote the benefits of hiring persons with disabilities in our community.”
To that end, we have sponsored various annual meetings, bringing in speakers to educate our citizens about our organization. Since our last General Meeting, our Board of Directors has discussed and worked on ways to draw more potential Employers into our activities.
This year, our annual community meeting will be held on May 9, 2017 at 7:30-9:00 a.m. at AMS Fulfillment’s ‘Advance My Skills’ Learning Center, located at 28624 Witherspoon Parkway, Valencia, CA 91355.
The program will include comments by our Mayor, Cameron Smyth, and a Year-In-Review by Chair, Ken Wiseman, CEO of AMS Fulfillment. This will be followed by a panel discussion, moderated by Tom Iland, on overcoming the challenges companies face in hiring people with disabilities.
Attendance is $10 – and a nice breakfast will be served.
This particular meeting, and the panel discussion, is primarily focused on professionals in the area of supporting education and employment of individuals with disabilities. We will also have a luncheon, in October, date to be announced, that will focus the presentations more on the executives that represent businesses and organizations that, although not in the profession of supporting services for individuals with disabilities, are directly employing, or taking extraordinary measures to support individuals with disabilities. This event is also open to general participation.
The May 9 program will then be followed by a short Board Meeting of the Mayor’s Committee for Employment of Individuals With Disabilities. All attendees are welcome to sit in on this board meeting.
RSVP or questions to Margie Melendez, Executive Assistant, AMS Fulfillment, 661-705-7592 or mmelendez@amsfulfillment.com.
