Audrey Asplund, who has been an assistant principal at West Ranch High School for the last five years, has been named the new principal of Rio Norte Junior High School.
Mrs. Asplund takes over for Vince Ferry, who was named last month as the new principal of Saugus High School, replacing the retiring Bill Bolde.
It is a homecoming for Mrs. Asplund as she taught 7th grade history at Rio Norte for 10 years before taking the position at West Ranch. Prior to her years teaching at Rio Norte, Mrs. Asplund taught history and special education in LAUSD.
“I am excited and honored to serve as the next principal of Rio Norte Junior High School,” Asplund said. “I am looking forward to partnering with students, families, teachers and staff in preparing students for success at the next level. I also aspire to continue the rich learning traditions established by the Rio Norte staff and leadership, including Mr. Vince Ferry who has been an outstanding principal.”
Mrs. Asplund received a Bachelor’s in History and a Master’s in Education from UCLA, and a Master’s in Educational Administration from California State University Northridge. Mrs. Asplund and her husband, Dave, have three children in college who attended local public schools.
