The Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation announces that a record-breaking donation was received by the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center, a service of Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, from “Ride for a Cure.” Now in its fourth year, this very special event held at the Santa Clarita Athletic Club on Oct. 12, raised an unprecedented $11,325 for the Breast Center.
Ride for a Cure is the brain child of local spin instructor Janet Cheveres, who created the event to raise funds—and awareness– during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Janet believes that the role of the breast center in early detection and thus early, successful treatment is critical to survival. With that in mind and a little effort, Ride for a Cure was born and has been a prosperous event for the past 4 years.
“According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every two minutes and one woman dies due to breast cancer every 13 minutes,” Says Janet Cheveres, the event organizer. The numbers are scary and staggering. So, taking action is more important to me than simply wearing pink in October. This is why I support The Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center.”
All proceeds from Ride for a Cure will be donated to the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center to help provide early detection for underserved men and women.
