A total of 103 Valencia High School Pride of the Vikings Marching Band and Color Guard students traveled to perform on a beautiful sunny day at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim California on Tuesday, January 22, in one of the world’s most watched parades.
The group was selected to be the featured performance for the historic Disneyland Main Street Parade marching before thousands of international spectators that entertained both young and old. The students performed the instrumental “Fantasmic” in which the theme is about the power of imagination.
Mr. Mark Judd, Band Director, along with design staff, Lorraine Kohagen, Color Guard Caption Head, and Scott Ruiz, Visual Caption Head received word from Disneyland in December that their group was selected to perform. Rehearsals began immediately. “To march and perform in the Disneyland Main Street Parade will be a cherished memory through this experience.” says Mark Judd. “They worked incredibly hard in such a short period of time to achieve excellence. They understood that their performance will be part of the magical Disney experience that the audience watching will remember forever.”
“The trip would not have been successful without the efforts of the Valencia High Marching Band and Color Guard Booster parents”, states Channon Morris, Booster President. “They work tirelessly behind the scenes to support the students. A special thank you to all Valencia High School parents for supporting the students and the school’s music programs.”
“Our school mission is to prepare students to meet the challenges of the future and to become responsible citizens through relevant learning opportunities, community involvement, innovative technology, and teamwork. Each student will develop the knowledge, skills, and character necessary to succeed through opportunities like the Disneyland Community Arts Showcase”, states Judd.
The students ended the day by witnessing Disneyland lighting up the night with its new high-energy projection light show and celebration song “It’s A Good Time” which coincidentally captured the entire experience of the day.
